The blue carbon market is currently hindered by a fragmented landscape of inconsistent remote sensing approaches. Kumi Analytics has led the formation of a Blue Carbon Consortium to change this.
Announced at the Singapore Space Summit, our mission is to replace complexity with an elegant technology based unified, open-source framework for mangroves, seagrass, and seaweed. The Blue Carbon Consortium is:
- Bridging the Gap: Creating tools that link satellite imagery with ground-truth data to streamline digital MRV.
- Achieving global interoperability: Building methodologies for use by national governments and bodies including Verra, Gold Standard, OxCarbon, Isometric, Equitable Earth and Cercarbono to provide feedback and leverage.
- Mitigating risk: Providing standardized data to help insure restoration projects.
We are proud to lead this initiative supported by a diverse group of experts:
- Space Agencies: Philippine Space Agency, Maldives Space Research Organisation (MSRO), and PASCO (Commercial distribution for Japanese Space Agency).
- Research & Academia: Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP) (National University of Singapore), Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, and UN University – Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability Nexus AID Program.
- Market Experts: Global Mangrove Trust, HAMERKOP Climate Impacts, and Kita.
Our goal is to make blue carbon transparent and scalable - if you’re interested to hear more or get involved, please get in touch!
Many thanks Quantum Commodity Intelligence for the wonderful feature and the permission to post this publicly.
